'Monday Blues' by OLD/CHAOS: A Tribute to Ian Curtis

'Monday Blues' by OLD/CHAOS: A Tribute to Ian Curtis

Soon after diving into the world of AI music we were determined to conjure up a track inspired by one of our musical idols, the legendary Manchester band, New Order. We aimed to create a song that resonated with the same iconic feel as their massive 1983 hit, 'Blue Monday', while paying homage to Ian Curtis, the lead singer of New Order’s earlier incarnation, Joy Division.

Ian Curtis tragically took his own life just before Joy Division was about to embark upon their first American tour and his band mates went on to form New Order. His life and music have profoundly influenced many and having faced our own mental health challenges over the years, we set about crafting lyrics that explored feelings of isolation and depression, themes that Ian often touched upon in his music.

With these emotions in mind, we wrote lyrics that delved deep into the struggles of loneliness and despair. These were paired with a cold, electronic beat reminiscent of the post-punk era, reflecting the sound that both Joy Division and New Order mastered.

Naming the song and the band to attribute it to was equally crucial. We decided to call the band 'OLD/CHAOS' and titled the song 'Monday Blues'. Nothing groundbreaking, but it captured the essence of the song perfectly and gave a nod to New Order's classic track.

As the song took shape, we were thrilled with its progression. One of the standout moments in the creation process was the addition of a peculiar musical interlude towards the end of the track. It felt as if something extraordinary was guiding the creation, adding a touch of magic to the piece.

Once the track was finished, we put together a basic lyric video to convey the message of the song visually. This video aimed to do justice to Ian Curtis's memory and the tremendous legacy he left on modern music. His influence remains a guiding light for many artists, and we hope 'Monday Blues' serves as a respectful tribute to his life and work.

May Ian Curtis rest in peace, and may his music continue to inspire and console those who find solace in his words and melodies.
